To view the complete policy, OLA\u2019s Statement of Appropriate Conduct at OLA Conference,&nbsp; visit:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ola.memberclicks.net\/conferences\">https:\/\/ola.memberclicks.net\/conferences<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-04111373054a478ec88f978917814fc4\"><strong>GUIDELINE<\/strong><br>Oregon Library Association is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and the free expression of ideas, as expressed in the American Library Association\u2019s Statement of Appropriate Conduct at ALA Conferences. The values and beliefs delineated within ALA policy describe conduct based on a firm belief in the value of civil discourse and the free exploration of competing ideas and concepts \u2013 with a fundamental respect for the rights, dignity, and value of all persons. As a chapter of the ALA, OLA fully supports these values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8408d2915e60b70538608f794f8c970b\">Building an inclusive organizational culture is challenging in normal times, but in the age of COVID-19 creating inclusive virtual spaces can seem especially daunting. It is imperative to our collective success that each person is able to be fully present and contribute their authentic selves in every meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eb0fa2ffab58e0da45b04aa612664abf\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: For the 2024 Conference, please report feedback to improve the OLA conduct guidelines and agreements and\/or incidents of personal, cultural, or professional harm during the conference directly to OLA President Ericka Brunson-Rochette at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:olapresident@olaweb.org\">olapresident@olaweb.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-056fb4cc60c19d7cb434d1de7def9671\"><strong>COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS TO BUILD AN INCLUSIVE CULTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c6b208a42c7a92e403eee5d1c7adc25b\"><strong>Confidentiality &amp; Permission&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 We agree to not share each other\u2019s stories or narratives without permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f40b27e58e7ad813bcb373098ef3b4ea\"><strong>Fully Present and Patient \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>We agree to listen to each other without distraction and without predatory listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f25fc03aa32ef084e351ca807b66380d\"><strong>Default to Inquiry over Judgement \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>We agree to be curious and ask questions before making judgements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b698a30b61e816e1bf39630e0f64eee5\"><strong>Share the Air \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>We agree to share our perspective, ideas, and narratives while allowing space for others to share their perspective, ideas, and narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-61e9c16d5b2b3bcf3ef4ef89bfac64d5\"><strong>Believe People\u2019s Narratives \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>We agree to believe each other\u2019s perspective, ideas, and narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2bd077a521de600af8e0923e313875ca\"><strong>Acknowledge the Difference Between Intent and Impact \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>We agree to reflect on how our intent and impact may differ or align.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0cf0ebbffd912a87cad4bf5ab8ea5703\"><strong>Repair Work \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>When our intent and impact do not align, we agree to acknowledge harm, make a commitment to improve, and ask what is needed to move forward. The ask in this community agreement is that we each do the work to acknowledge that our intent and the impact of our actions are two different things, and to take responsibility for any negative impact we have. (This can be as simple as apologizing.) (AORTA, 2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1b8e88675ad41e68fb095bde78cb9bff\"><strong>Self-Compassion \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>When our intent and impact do not align, we agree to be compassionate with ourselves, understanding we are all lifelong learners. We can\u2019t be articulate all the time. Often people feel hesitant to participate in a workshop or meeting for fear of \u201cmessing up\u201d or stumbling over their words.
