We’ll discuss both what we can learn from their expertise and strategies for cultivating organizational partnerships. This discussion is facilitated by our Conference Chair, Taylor Worley, and kicks off three days of fantastic programming. Welcome to the 2025 OLA Conference! <\/p>\n\n\n\n Featured Training: Trauma Awareness, De-Escalation & Resilience<\/strong> by Trauma Healing Project<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wednesday, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Gleason Atrium<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n People with histories of trauma are likely to have internal and external struggles that can interfere with communication, impede follow-through and generally frustrate those trying to help. In this very interactive workshop for library staff and administrators, we will cover the impacts of trauma on behavior, learning and communication; trauma-sensitive relationship and rapport building; working with distressed individuals and conflict; and how to support ourselves and each other to stay healthy, connected and safe. We will use scenarios, small groups and practice activities to build competency and skills in assessing and responding to a variety of escalated situations. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns as well as stories of working with individuals experiencing crisis or distress, and to explore situations and circumstances they want more skills to handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Featured Training: Gender 101 <\/strong>by TransPonder<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wednesday, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., Meeting Room 3W<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Gender 101 is an essential training designed to equip you with foundational knowledge about gender and its related concepts. In this session, we will explore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n This training is ideal for those at the beginning of their journey of understanding gender and sexuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Featured Author Session with Donna Barba Higuera<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Friday, 9:00 – 10:30am, Exhibit Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Donna Barba Higuera is the New York Times best selling author of Middle Grade and picture books that reinvent history, folklore, and or her own life experience into compelling storylines.
